You can’t serve others if you are on empty. Self-care is vital to anything you do and it isn’t a selfish act. Often, we ignore our own care and rest when we look at the ever growing task list. Kids. School. Sports. Work. Aging parents to care for. Laundry. Volunteering. And the list goes on…. We focus solely on the list and the people we care for and want to help. The problem is that we forget that WE are important as well. You can’t nurture, love and serve when you are depleted. The internal gas tank can only go on fumes for so long before a collapse will happen. If you want to really give and feed into others, do them the honor of caring for yourself first. Yes, the honor. Because then you only have the BEST of yourself to give away instead of the fumes that are left over. Love them and yourself enough to take a rest. This is very important for those that serve others for a living – ministers, care givers, counselors, and parents. You have chosen noble professions now honor the service and those you serve by investing in your self care too. Not only will you avoid burn out but you will stay connected to your passion with renewed energy. Others will notice that you are present, engaged and full of life – which is why they come to you! What will you do this week to take care of yourself?

The post Drained And Empty Honors No One appeared first on Avid Seed.

A Random Tweet Kept Me Holding On Have you ever felt like you need to say something to another person and you hold back because you either don’t know what it means or you just don’t want to be weird? For the longest time, I would not say things to others because of just being weird or it seemed like it had NOTHING to do with our conversation. But once I learned to give in to the nudge and delivered the message, I watched people change. This happened for me the other day. I’ve had a tough couple of weeks. Simply put I have had a stinky attitude about a few areas of my life. Things have not been moving at my pace and I was frustrated. I was standing on that proverbial ledge ready to take the free fall plunge down to the rocky bottom. Then someone I don’t know sent me a random tweet: At the exact moment this tweet came in, I was explaining to a friend why I was ready to give up. And “tweet tweet” came the alert on my iPhone. It was my sign. My motivation to hold on and get clarity before I threw in the towel. This person only started following me on Twitter less than two weeks ago. We’ve never exchanged messages and don’t know each other. And, I hadn’t posted anything on Twitter in a few days. Don’t discount those moments when you feel the nudge to say what needs ...

The post Random Tweet Brings Motivation appeared first on Avid Seed.

Win The Ball And You Got This This past weekend my youngest son had state soccer tournaments. It was a beautiful weekend in Middle Tennessee to be outdoors and enjoy some good sport. One of the many phrases I heard from the Coach and parents was WIN THE BALL. I started to pay attention when WIN THE BALL was being said and noticed it was each time one of our players faced off an opposing player to get the ball back for our team. This isn’t a new phrase to most athletes out there but it was one I wasn’t used too. I thought about this concept – how often do we face off in opposition to something and give in because the game itself feels like it is over? We see we aren’t in control of the ball and the game is tough. So why put in the effort? Take one step at a time, one ball at a time, one moment at a time, one opposition at a time. Win the moment you are in and not worry about the whole of the game. When you win the ball you win the game.

The post Win The Ball.

click above to go to original post and full list Leap List Update: Out of Sight & Out of Mind I’m pretty embarrassed to come back to you exactly THREE MONTHS later with zero progress on my leap list. Really?! How does this happen? Life happens. So often we have great goals and plans laid out but we get sidetracked with the every day normalcy and responsibilities in our lives. It isn’t anything we need to beat ourselves up over though. But, we should recognize just how quickly time passes and along with it our opportunities to just LIVE LIFE! My goal for my 39th year was to live it fully. Ultimately, that is the main goal for the entire year – leap list or not. I can say I am most definitely living a full life!! I would have loved to tell you that I knocked off a huge part of the list. But, sadly no. The only update I can give you is that Jacob received his official confirmation for acceptance to UT Knoxville! We are all pretty darned excited about it too. List or no list, I am choosing to live each day fully and engage with it as it comes to me. Biggest life lesson of this year is learning to shift from a performance based life to an engaged, purpose-filled life. Don’t waste your time! Start living fully, too!

The post Leap List: Out of Sight Out of Mind appeared first on Avid Seed.

One America. One People. I’ve bitten my tongue, nearly in half, this entire year during the United States Presidential Campaign. It wasn’t from lack of opinion but rather my desire to be different than the masses. I’ll explain what I mean in a moment. First, I would like to say Congratulations to President Barak Obama for his 2012 win. May you be blessed by God’s grace in your next term to lead our Nation. Gasps just erupted in front of computer screens every where didn’t they? Once you start breathing again, read this next sentence. My post today isn’t about politics. I was raised with the belief that we respect our National Leader no matter who they are or which political party they are aligned with or whether or not I agree with their platform. I was taught to pray for our National Leader. But, my point for this post is simply this. I’m ashamed at the behavior of the American People….not all of course, but definitely the majority I’m surrounded by. The level of hatred and bitterness that has exuded from hearts and mouths astounds me. We are One Nation, One People, One Race, One World, One America. Our Nation isn’t in ruin because of Democrats or Republicans or even the crazy extremists that roam around out there. It is because we stopped caring for each other. We stopped seeing each other as brother and sister. We stopped wanting freedom for all and instead chose what we wanted for ...

The post Congratulations, Mr. President!

You Are All That Stands In The Way Of Living If you follow my social media feeds, you likely saw last week that I had a bad haircut and was so not happy about it. Truth is it wasn’t a “bad” haircut it was not what I asked for, provided pictures of and is about 3″ shorter than I hoped for period. For us girls, we tie a lot of our confidence to our hair and general appearance. I’m particularly picky about my hair – shocking, I know! For a few day’s I moaned endlessly about how short my hair was and that I’d probably have to post pone every scheduled “public” event for 6 weeks while it grew out. *Yes, on occasion I get dramatic* I even cancelled a photo shoot this past weekend because I was so mortified. And, then it hit me! Find the pretty in it because you will not sacrifice life moments because someone made a mistake. Do you do this too? Not with hair but life in general? Someone (you included) makes a mistake and you go into hiding. You refuse to go after the life you want because it isn’t “exactly as you planned”? SPOILER ALERT: Life rarely ever goes exactly as planned or forecasted. It’s time to put on your big girl/boy pants and get to living. Stop making excuses as to why you can’t and choose to go for it!

The post Don’t Let Anything Hold You Back From Living appeared first on Avid Seed.
